 山雞與鳳凰

A person in the state of Chu, trying to sell his pheasant(野雞), lied topeople by saying that what was in his hand was a phoenix(鳳凰).

A passerby believed him and bought it for twenty pieces of gold.

The passerby wanted to present it to the king of the state of Chu. But outof his expectation, the pheasant died the next day. The passerby did not valuethe money but regret that he could not present it to the king. This story wentaround the whole country, and every one believed that it was a true phoenix.

Hearing of this, the king of the state of Chu was moved by the loyalty ofhis subjects. The king then called in the man who had wanted to present thephoenix, and gave him awards that were worth ten times the money he had paid forthe pheasant.

一個楚國人為了把山雞賣出去,謊稱自己手裡拿的是一隻鳳凰。

一個過路人相信了他的話,拿出二十金把它買了下來。

An artist asked the gallery owner if there had been any interest in hispaintings currently on display."I've got good news and bad news,"the ownerreplied.

"The good news is that a gentleman inquired about your work andwondered ifit would appreciate in value after your I told him it would, hebought all fifteen of your paintings."

"That's wonderful!" the artist exclaimed, "What's the bad news?". Withconcern,the gallery owner replied, "The guy was your doctor."

Once upon a time, there were four mice that lived in a wall inthefield.

Soon, the first snow came, and the four mice went back into thewall.

They ate their berries and they ate their nuts and they ate theircorn andthey ate their straw. But time passed, and time passed, and soon therewere nomore berries, and soon there were no more nuts and soon there were nomore cornand soon there were no more straw.

Now the winter was cold and dark, long and quiet. The mice were sadandhungry. Then they remembered Frederick.

“Hey, Frederick, can you show us what you collected for the winter.”

“Ok,” said Frederick, “close your eyes. Here is my sunshine for the cold,dark inter.” And Frederick began to tell his friends some stories, and the miceto feel warmerand warmer

“Great, Frederick! How about the colors and the words?”

“Ok,” said Frederick, “close your eyes” and he told them about theblueskies, and he told them about thered poppies, and he told them about thegreengrass, and he told them about thepurple berries, and he told them abouttheyellow corn of summer.

“That’s wonderful, Frederick, thank you.” Said the mice.

“We’velearnedsomething about you”, they told him.
