  win at the starting line

Good afternoon, everyone. I am very happy to be here with so many fresh faces today. My name is Wang XX, a senior class 1101 student, and I feel very honored to share my experience here and give you some advice at the beginning of your college life.

In fact, I am very curious about your definition of a wonderful university life at such a time. Some people have complained that university four years are a waste of time and money. Do you think so? The answer is No. What I want to tell you is that as long as you manage your college life well, it will become a valuable asset in your life.

Next I want to share with you briefly my experience in University. I always remember that when I was a freshman, a school elder sister shared our experience on this stage. I was so shocked by her spoken English that I decided to work hard to achieve the same level as her. So what I did in college was to make full use of all kinds of resources in the university to develop my potential and improve my level. When I was freshman, I studied hard like high school, never skipped classes, listened carefully in class, reviewed carefully after class, and finished homework independently. At that time, University was a new stage of life for me. I had to find a way to adapt myself to it as soon as possible. In order to improve my ability, I actively participated in various activities and associations, such as joining the student union, visiting the elderly home, selling newspapers on the street, the red song chorus competition and the recitation competition.

Through a year's efforts, my ability has been improved to a large extent. 21 years is a very important turning point for me. I try to learn as much knowledge as possible and apply it to practice. The eighteenth China Daily newspaper's twenty-first Century Cup National English speech contest was still a brilliant picture of my college life. I was lucky to have won the school's special prize. But in fact, ranking is far from the most important. The important thing is that I really gained a lot from this competition. It is obvious that my English speaking ability has been improved to a certain extent, and I am no longer afraid to speak in public. At the same time, I also know some friends who have the same ambition in English, and can share English learning experience together. Other translation competitions such as Hubei Province, etc., I will not repeat here. In addition, social volunteer activities are also worth mentioning. In July XX, I was lucky enough to be a volunteer to Singapore for the second XX International Traditional Wushu competition. It was also a valuable experience in my life. I personally felt a different culture and widened my horizons. Here, I want to tell you that university is a comprehensive platform for our journey of life. We should seize every opportunity to improve ourselves so that we can grow up.

The third year is a great leap for my growth and progress. With the English foundation of the previous two years, I took part in more important disciplines, and got the first prize in the Hubei finals of the CCTV "star of hope", the first prize of the fifth cross-strait interpretation competition and the first prize for the National College English competition. After such a series of competitions, I am more confident in the way of learning English. Next, I will give you some suggestions to help you add credit to your college days.

Suggestion one: to dabble in knowledge and enrich oneself

For most of you here, the four years of college will be an invaluable learning time in your life. Someone once made such a metaphor that university is like a dye vat, which means that your behavior is easy to be influenced by others. In fact, if you make up your mind to learn, you will be surrounded by knowledge and wisdom; but if you lose the desire to learn, your university may get nothing for four years.

Suggestion two: give full play to potential and develop interest

As we all know, universities are an integrated platform for senior high schools. We do not need to study hard all day, but strive to develop in an all-round way. For example, if you love dancing, join the dance association to exercise yourself. Dare to show it! The fun life will be colorful.

  Suggestion three: optimism and hope

As you may have heard, university life is dominated by yourself. Sometimes you will find that teachers will not tell you how to deal with everything, so sometimes it is normal to feel confused about the difficulties encountered. But remember, life is full of ups and downs, and predicament is just part of life. Keep positive and you will find a way out.

In short, you should combine your own characteristics with the above suggestions and stick to it. You will find that success is waiting for you not far from you.
